    I need more of these honest opinions!!! The porcelain sweater is my DREAM and I’m planning to do the Wave Sweater soon. So so so good to know their quirks. I’m a little more afraid of the porcelain sweater than I already was 🤪. I also have weird proportions so it’s great to be prepared about weird sizing and shaping issues.

    • @evasknittingpodcast
      @evasknittingpodcast  10 дней назад +1

      The porcelain sweater is really not bad at all! Make sure to do a gauge swatch, do your own math on the sizing and ease and you should be totally fine!

    Ah, yes, Karisma... As someone with unreasonably sensitive skin I'd say it's on the itchy side. BUT it does get softer after washing and even more softer after a soak with hair conditioner. But even then I can only use it over several layers of clothing (after realising it's too much I quickly caked the yarn back up and turned it into a lap blanket instead of a vest. So only my legs are getting the most use out of this yarn, but then again, over layers of other fabrics. My cats love Karisma, thought).
    Also also, I don't see people talk about it so don't know if it's just a me problem or more wide spread. Sensitive skin and itchy wool. For me it works in two ways. 1) The wool itself is itchy, even through several layers of clothing. 2) The wool (say, in my case alpaca or stranded knitting) reflects body heat too much back at me and that in turn makes my skin itchy. So, two different processes going on and solutions are different.
    I guess when knitting for other people the safest option is to ask them directly and/or maybe even take them to the yarn shop together to test different types of yarn to see what works and what doesn't (it's just yarn, not the finished product so there's still plenty space for a surprise). For me personally my wrists are the most sensitive, for my kid - the neck and so on. People have different sensitive spots and will react accordingly. Just my two cents.
    P.s. Knitting tiny sweaters is peak! Takes very little yarn and I still get the same sense of accomplishment as fihishing an actual garment.

    Lol love your takes, knitting youTube lacks channels like that ❤
    As of bumps in wave sweater: neck opening is not sure enough and not deep enough. The back neck is also probably not deep enough so it rides back. Major issues with construction I assume

    • @evasknittingpodcast
      @evasknittingpodcast  3 дня назад

      Haha thank you! 🥰
      And yes, i‘m pretty sure you’re correct on the construction issues. I‘ve made several patterns by the designer and all of them feel a bit like they just didn‘t care enough to put some thought into smarter/more efficient/better-fitting construction methods.

  • @knallfroosch

    I love your snark and honesty :D
    I too have experienced frustration with designers who should take a lesson in anatomy sometime.
    In 2023, I started working on the Arctic Light Sweater, finished the body and one sleeve and noticed that I had WAY too much fabric on the torso and way too large armholes.
    Undid the whole sleeve, reduced the armhole size by 10 cm, did calculations for the sleeves, tried making one. and now it's too tight for my liking.
    On top of that, the sweater does NOT have short row shaping for the collar.
    It's basically been resting and occupying my 5mm needles for 15 months now and I semi decided to frog it, but it's frustrating because I actually wanted that sweater and the cables are cool.
    But yeah, I'm never knitting a raglan sweater ever again, especially not one designed by a skinny person (I am between XL and 2XL and felt like I was wearing a tent)

    • @evasknittingpodcast
      @evasknittingpodcast  17 дней назад

      I‘m sorry to hear, that sounds so disheartening! The Arctic Lights sweater is actually a culprit I’ve heard much about, specifically the excess armpit fabric and the lack of shortrow shaping. I totally understand your frustration, us laypeople are able to grasp the concept of basic grading, why would actual designers (who have the time because this is the main thing they do) not try and get their pieces‘ fit right? I really hope once you frog it you‘ll find another sweater that you love, because I agree that the Arctic Light is so beautiful. I‘ve actually been thinking about making it too but other peoples’ fit problems kept me from casting on - I’ve now actually got my eye on the Sirena sweater by Cookie The Knitter, it does give a different vibe but I think it’s just as pretty. Best of luck finding a new piece you love!

    • @evasknittingpodcast
      @evasknittingpodcast  18 дней назад +1

      Well I think if you’re down to do some modifications, absolutely go for it! I think the two tricky parts are 1. neck shaping and 2. length, due to the colorwork motif. Other than that, i think it‘s such a cool design - ALLEGEDLY there‘s people who zoom in very closely into photos of the colorwork, draw their own chart and then just freehand the shape of the garment 👁️👁️

  • @PurpleAlipineFlower
    @PurpleAlipineFlower 15 дней назад

    I think wearing a shirt underneath is important if you are sensitive. I got a white collared long sleeve shirt to wear under my itchier sweaters. It also cools them, to me-which is nice that I don’t overheat when I am inside but still snuggly.

    I'm finishing my Porcelain sweater and def thought the construction was very Frankenstein. And in terms of the sizing, I didn't want so much positive ease (based on the photo) so based on my calculations, I should have 4-5in (10-13cm) positive ease. I've been trying it on and it's a little tight. I'm hoping the blocking resolves all that. Ugh

    • @evasknittingpodcast

    Here for the slander while knitting away on my vintage sweater pattern without any shaping nor bumps holding my tea. Was just looking at someone on Ravelry who had to restart from the spektakelstrik book on yet another sweater 4 times before she found out there was an errata on the website. Also am back in your comments as the sensitive skinned knitter representative to recommend Lamana como! It's too pricey for me for a whole sweater but it is genuinely the only one I've found so far that is not itchy, so am lining my collars with it. Also can't do alpaca... so proceed with caution

      No don't make me comment a 3rd time to admit you are convincing me of the la bubu hype. Just knit a raglan flat and put a small button on the shoulder so it has an opening like baby sweaters!

      Restarting FOUR TIMES? That person must have the patience of an angel 😭 also, vintage sweaters without any shaping (except the neck hehe) are the best, i love them!
      Lamana Como is actually one of my personal favorite yarns too, so thanks for verifying! My friend just started knitting herself and I got her two skeins of Lamana Como to go with the sweater so she can knit herself a Sophie Scarf ☺️

    The construction for the porcelain sweater does sound normal, you just have to pick up strategically and it looks good. The way you describe doing drop shoulders is called an european drop shoulder i believe and gives you a way more sloped shoulder.
    But yeah i find both her and spektakkelstrikk to have horrible fit and sizing
